Convert between Rumi (Latin) and Jawi (Arabic-based) scripts for the Malay language. This converter uses a dictionary of over 66,000 words with rule-based phonetic transliteration as a fallback for words not found in the dictionary.
The Malay language has two writing systems in modern use: the romanised script Rumi and the Arabic-based script Jawi. Rumi is the more widely used today, but Jawi continues to hold importance for cultural, religious, and administrative purposes in Malaysia, Brunei, and parts of Indonesia and Thailand.
Jawi was the dominant script for writing Malay from around the 14th century until the 20th century. It is based on the Arabic alphabet with six additional letters to represent sounds not found in Arabic:چ (ca),ڠ (nga),ڤ (pa),ݢ (ga),ۏ (va), andڽ (nya).
